May 4, 2009 question of the day

Question of the Day:
Should Crenshaw students join student day of action against class size increases and layoffs on Friday, May 8th? If so, what action to take?

I believe that students should take part in the student day of action on friday if possible. Although many Crenshaw seniors will be preparing for the prom that day, it is important that students in other grade levels come out to support teachers and continue to fight against unfair layoffs and budget cuts in LAUSD schools. The type of action that they need to take is to do a walk-out and encourage other people to join out on the streets.

  1. As one of the students who is leading the "student day of action" I believe it is every student’s duty to be a part of our movement to a better education. This is the only way we can get everyone’s attention on this issue whether its the media, community, or the board members. Yes I know a "walk out" seems to be too radical but to me this the only type of action that can change the votes and prevent the budget cuts. Students all around LAUSD schools have been fighting to stop the budget cuts since the beginning of March we tried everything from informing students to rallies and marches.

Its affective but most of the board members are still for the budget cuts. Us as students from L.A have to prove them wrong the only way is to show unity between each of us and the "walk out" from my prospective does the job. To all you seniors who can't make please be apart of this its not necessary to come that day but the least you can do is support and spread the word around Crenshaw High
